FTP User Guide

What is FTP?

FTP is a very common method of moving single or multiple files between two computer systems across the internet. FTP is a way to login to another Internet site for the purposes of retrieving and/or sending files.

Who can use it?

FTP does not need a specific type of computer to work. However, depending on your Operating System (OS), you may need some additional software to connect and transfer files through FTP.

How does it work?

To use FTP you will need to be connected to the internet. We do not advise using FTP if you only connect to the internet through a modem. Ideally you would have a Broadband connection of at least 512k.
Using a piece of software called an FTP Client, you would browse files on your (local) computer and send them to our main (host) computer across the internet.

What can I send?

To make the most of the space available, we would ask that you only send us Jpeg images. When you are sending large amounts of information to your FTP folder, your internet connection will slow down. Jpegs help to minimise this whilst still offering a low compromise on image quality. If you do want to send us a Tiff file, please limit the amount of files you transfer and look at a realistic file size of 25-30mb.

How do you know what to print?

Typically, when transferring files to us, you would send an email which contains a ‘Job Sheet’ (details of what you want... size/papertype/date wanted...etc...). This way, we know when to check your FTP folder for new work.
It is not possible for us to monitor your FTP folder, so without a confirmation email we would not realise you have sent us a new job and therefore it may go un-printed!

Apple Mac

The Apple computer must have FTP Client software installed to transfer files. We recommend using Cyberduck as it is free and very easy to use.
Where can I get that?

If you do not already have FTP Client software, you can download the software here or copy and paste this link into the browser address bar: http://www.ccimagingftp.com/cyberduck.dmg

Who can use it?

Cyberduck, although free, is a ne
w piece of software and as such Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later is required. If you happen to have an earlier version of Mac OS, why not try doing a search with www.google.com and typing in ‘ftp client for mac’.

How do I set it up?Image

Once installed, start cyberduck and create
a new connection by inputting these details:

Server:              ftp.ccimagingftp.com
UserName:        This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it
Password:         exampleftp

Try logging on, if it disconnects try logging on again but change connection from passive to active (in the box at the bottom of the connection screen).

Where does it go?

When you connect to your folder you will see a ruled area. Drag and drop files into this area and a transfer window will appear showing the estimated time of completion.

You have exclusive access to your folder so there is no need to worry about security.

Once all of your images have transferred, please send us an email with details of size/finish...etc...

Windows PC

If your PC is running Windows XP, you will not need additional software to connect to your FTP folder. Older copies of Windows require an FTP Client.

Setup for XP

Open an Internet window and type in the address bar ftp.ccimagingftp.com. The page will load but bring up a small box with what looks like an error. Click OK to this. You will now see a blank internet window. Right click in the white area to bring up a menu. Select ‘Login as’, this will bring up a login box.

Enter the following details:

UserName:        This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it
Password:         exampleftp

After clicking OK to the login box, you will now have access to your FTP folder. Simply drag and drop files or folders into the white area of the window to transfer files to us.

I don’t have XP, what do I need?

If you do not already have an FTP Client, we recommend Smart FTP which can be found here.

How do I set it up?

Once installed, start Smart FTP and create a new connection by inputting these details:

Server:               ftp.ccimagingftp.com

Where does it go?

Completed the Job Sheet?

Save the completed sheet with a file a name like ‘My Name 21-04-06’ so we know who it belongs to and what job it is related to.  Email the finished job sheet to us at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it .

When do I do this?

Whilst your images are being transferred over FTP, please complete and send this form. We can then use it as a checklist to ensure your job is printed complete and according to your order.
